Laughing and Hair

I have only heard Nathan laugh a couple of times. That boy does not hand out those laughs freely. I can act like an idiot trying to get him to laugh and all I get is a smile or two which is better than nothing. That little stinker. But I finally caught him laughing on video. Please ignore the stupid sound I am making and the awful camera work. Also, I don't know why the video is sideways but all you need to hear is that sweet laugh!

On another note, ever since Nathan was born his hair sticks straight up in the back. I can wet it with water every day but within the next few minutes it is sticking right back up. So I've decided to stop fighting it and let it stick up! I should start calling him Alfalfa from The Little Rascals. I still think he's the cutest little boy ever! So here are a few shots of his lovely hair.

The last photo was taken right after he woke up. Don't ya just love it??

The Joys Of Being A New Mom

I'm obviously a new mother so I definitely do NOT know everything but I do know that motherhood is a lot harder than I thought. Don't get me wrong, being a mother is the most rewarding and wonderful experience but it has it's challenges.

Before Nathan was born, I had my sister and other people tell me things that they went through after their child was born and I just thought well they just need to suck it up! Boy, does the Lord have a sense of humor! Little did I know how challenging it really is to be a new mom.

Here are a few things that I am/have gone through in the past 3 months that I didn't think would happen to me:

1. Stretch Marks - Let's be honest, they are not the prettiest thing ever nor the prettiest thing to talk about. I thought surely I won't get stretch marks during my pregnancy but sure enough in the last month those darn things started to appear. Then I thought well once Nathan is born they will go away. Um...NO! They still stare me in the face everyday.

2. Loss of Hair - This is something that I had heard every woman go through after their baby is born. I was asked about a month after Nathan was born if my hair started to fall out and I said no because it hadn't. Well not long after that I started to notice that in the shower or when I would fix my hair that I would lose a lot of hair! Now anytime I run my fingers through my hair, I pull out like a hair ball! Gross, I know.

3. Laziness - Before Nathan was born, I thought that I would be super mom and have the house clean every day and supper cooked by the time Alex got home from work. Boy was I ignorant. When Nathan goes down for a nap, all I want to do is sit on my booty and watch tv. Most days the laundry is overflowing, the dishes are piled up in the sink and the living room has toys sprawled all over the floor. Some days I don't get my shower till late afternoon. I feel overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done while taking care of Nathan at the same time. I feel inadequate most days.

But in the end, I am so thankful for a wonderful husband who supports me, loves me, encourages me and helps me around the house even after having a long day at work. He tells me I'm beautiful every day and pampers me like a queen. I also have been blessed with an easygoing, loving baby who I would do anything for. Nathan is worth every stretch mark, every hair I lose and is way more important than having a spotless house.

As for being lazy, God has really convicted me about this issue. Although I do not have a paying job, my job is to take care of Nathan and to take care of the house. I love being a stay at home mom. I am called to worship God in everything I do especially how I take care of Nathan and the house. Doing the dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the toilets, playing with Nathan are all worship to God. It gives me a new motivation to get things done because I know I am worshiping God through my housework.

Thanks for allowing me to rant about what's been going on in the life of Kim Beasley! Don't mean to scare any new moms-to-be (Abby!). Being a mom really is the best thing ever. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I mean, how can you resist this cute little face???

Chicken Taco Soup

One of the big things I miss about living in North Carolina is the weather. Fall was my favorite season with the vibrant colors and crisp weather. We don't quite get to experience that here in San Antonio but we still love living here!

For the past few days, the weather has been just hot and humid. Well today it finally feels somewhat like Fall. It's gloomy and cool out or should I say cool-er! :) I had to take advantage of the cooler weather so I decided to make my mom's Chicken Taco Soup in the crockpot. So I wanted to share the recipe with you all because it's too good to keep to myself. I'm sure my mom won't care!

Boil 3-4 chicken breasts (dice)
1 c. broth
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can Rotel
1 can creamed corn
 4 oz. velveeta
1 cup cooked rice

Place all ingredients (except the rice) in the crockpot and simmer until warm and cheese has melted. Add the cooked rice to soup before serving. Serve over tortilla chips.

Alex and I love this recipe! It's so easy and so yummy!

If you don't know what to cook for supper tonight, then here ya go! Enjoy!

Motor Boat

Nathan has really started to try and mimic any noise we make. His favorite thing to do is the motor boat. He has gotten so good at it too! Here is a little video I took of him today. Please excuse my annoying voice and my version of the motor boat.

The Peanut Festival

This weekend Nathan attended his first parade! Floresville had their annual Peanut Festival so we attended the parade on Saturday morning. We had front row seats to all the action. It was a hot and humid morning but we had a great time despite the nasty weather!

Excited for the parade to start!

Wearing his Cardinals hat just like his daddy.

Watching and listening to the marching band.

I love that sweet little face!

A lady in the parade walked up to Nathan and handed him a flag.

 Holding it like a pro.

 Starting to get sleepy...

 ...and he's out

No worries, he woke up in time to see the horses!

We had a great time! Looking forward to next year to when Nathan can really enjoy everything!

Doctor Appointments and Bumbo

Nathan had 2 doctor appointments today. One with a Hematologist and the other with his Pediatrician. I have a "blood disorder" called Factor Five. It just means that I am at a higher risk to get blood clots. It is hereditary but have never had any problems with it. When Nathan was in the NICU, they took some blood to see if he too had the same issue. We found out today that he does not have it. Thank you Jesus! The doctor was awesome and so sweet. He said Nathan's blood looked perfect and was a healthy boy. Just what his momma wants to hear!

We then had a weight check up with his Pediatrician. Two weeks ago, Nathan weighed 10 pounds, 9 ounces. They said he was a little under weight so they wanted us to come back in 2 weeks for another weight check up. We went in today and he weighs 12 pounds, 2 ounces! Our doctor was very pleased with his weight and said he was a healthy baby! Once again, a very happy momma!

The other day, I remembered we had a Bumbo. I pulled it out of the closet and Nathan loved it! He was a little unsure at first, but loved being able to sit up and look around.

If y'all haven't noticed yet, my husband is a big HUGE St. Louis Cardinals fan (hence Nathan's middle name, Louis!). Now that they are in the playoffs, Alex has been wearing a Cardinal shirt every day. The sad thing is that he probably has enough Cardinal shirts to wear a different one each day for like 2 weeks! Of course, Nathan wanted to be just like his daddy wearing his Cardinals onesie and his Cardinals ball cap. I know Alex is excited for the day when he can talk baseball with Nathan and to take him to his first Cardinals game. Fun times to come!

College Retreat and Big Spring

Sorry I haven't done much blogging lately. Life has been quite busy.

Two weekends ago, Alex and I took our college students on a retreat to Concan, TX. We had so much fun fellowshipping and learning about God's word. We stayed in a beautiful house. The weather was rainy but cool so it was perfect. Nathan was such a trooper. We can't wait to take him back once he is older.

Last Tuesday, Nathan and I traveled to Big Spring to spend a few days with Pops and Nonny. We did a lot of shopping and a lot of playing. Here are a few shots from the week.

Be looking for a new post soon! Nathan will be sleeping in his own bedroom tonight! Pray for me!
